Sales in April mark 47% increase over the same period of last year; total sales amount to 10,343 units with 3,980 units of domestic sales and 6,363 in exports. More than 4,000 Korando C’s have been delivered each month to new customers, and the monthly export volume exceeds 6,000 units in April, the first time ever since April in 2007. Along with the increasing export volume, sales in the domestic market are also expected to follow suit as a modified version of the existing model hits the domestic market in May.

Ssangyong Motor Company(President and CEO Lee Yoo-il ), part of the US$11.1 billion Mahindra Group, announced on May 2nd that the company had sold 10,343 units in the month of April, 3,980 in Korean market and 6,363 abroad (including CKD).

The April sales record represents 2 consecutive months of sales exceeding 10,000 units, and 47% increase when compared with the same period of the previous year. The cumulative sales up to April shows 59% increase over the same period.

According to the company, the recent sales thrust has resulted from the successful launch of the Korando C, which has sold over 4,000 units every month (domestic and sales and exports taken together), as well as favourable export sales which have created a record since April 2007 as the company’s exports exceeded 6,000 units, breaking the record of the previous month.

Since the successful launch of the Korando C, 2,627 units of the single model was for the export market tcomprising of up to 40% of the total export sales. With the Korando C leading the export thrust, the company’s total export sales grew by 11% over the previous month and by 45% over the same period of the previous year.

Domestic sales, however, decreased by a small amount due to shortage of parts and components and a decision to put production priority on orders for export.

“The drastic increase in exports has seen 2 consecutive months of sales exceeding 10,000 units,” said Lee Yoo-il, president and CEO of Ssangong Motor Company. “This trend will continue and expand in the future as we plan to launch a modified version of  the Chairman H for the domestic market in May.” he added.
