SsangYong Rexton Launched in 7 More Cities

Roughly 2 weeks ago we bought to you information on Mahindra & Mahindra’s plans for launching the SsangYong Rexton SUV phase-wise in 7 cities. And now, we can confirm that as M&M launched the luxury SUV in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Ludhiana, Patiala and Chandigarh today. Chief Marketing Officer of M&M Automotive Sector, Mr. Vivek Nayer was present at the Chennai launch and addressed those present.

The Indian Rexton comes with the RX-5 and RX-7 variants from the SsangYong Rexton line-up and houses the Daimler sourced, 2.7-litre, 5-cylinder configuration CRDI engine that is lined up to a 5-speed manual or the Mercedes-Benz sourced 5-speed automatic transmission. The RX-5 variant produces 162bhp while the Mercedes Sourced RX-7 hands out 184bhp.

According to Mr. Nayer, M&M was encouraged by the success of the XUV500 and proceeded to launch the Rexton. He made no comments or confirmations on the next-in-line Kando launch that is slated for 2013. Also present was Mr. Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, M&M who stated, “For Mahindra, the launch of the SsangYong Rexton last month marked a momentous occasion in our automotive journey. We are now extending the offering of this high-end SUV to the discerning Indian consumer in 7 other cities. I am sure that the Rexton with its perfect combination of indulgence, refinement, style and performance will carve a niche for itself with consumers within these new cities.”
