Luxury Sports car in India marks a definition of exclusivity in India. A high demand for the luxury sports car has been witnessed in the domestic auto sector which has lured many auto giants across globe. The companies are investing in the Indian auto sector right from Aston Martin to Bugatti to Spyker.
Italian Sports car is well known for its technology, luxury and of course speed. Big names in such a category includes Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lamborghini which were the cars exhibited at the Bologna Motor Show.
Well it pops a lot of questions that will India be able to sustain the expensive sports car. As the market holds strong potential for the small car market. But on the contrary, it favours as the domestic car market is the second fastest growing auto market globally, after China.
The infrastructure in India is not in a perfect condition. For instance roads, number of accidents happening and much more. These cars are especially designed to acquire the average speed of 300 kmph and to go speedily through straight roads and also at round abouts. With the quality of the roads in India, it is difficult to find the perfect pathways to drive these cars.
Joanne Marshall, a Ferrari, spokesperson, said that, India is the next targeted market and it will be the 58th country the sports car will launch its vehicle in, in the coming months. When inquired about the unsuitable conditions of Indian roads, the spokesperson replied that, Ferrari is not just about speed but also the pleasure it gives while driving the luxury sports. Marshall also said that, Italy is known for sports car and Formula 1 races. Ferrari is a favourite of almost all the sports car fans. It accounts for the reason that Ferrari is owned by many Italians.
The auto companies have redesigned the sports car to suit the condition of the sub continents such as India and likes that have a very different climate than Italy. Francisco Paoli, designers from Maserati Sports car said that, at a temperature of 40 degree Celsius it is very difficult to drive an open car and also during heavy rainfall. If compared to Italy, it has a Mediterranean climate which is suitable for driving the sports car.
All such factors and more bring a big question mark to the sustainability and scope of growth of luxury sports car in the domestic market. Only time and some thinking from both the company's side and the Government could sketch out a clear picture for these luxury beauties.
