The all new XC90 from Swedish manufacturer Volvo will make its much awaited global debut on August 27, 2014. The all new XC90 is the next generation model which embraces premium features such as large touch screen control console, handcrafted soft leather and wood panels. Volvo will launch the all new XC90 at the countryside art hall of Artipelag near Stockholm.
The XC90 is the Volvo's first vehicle to use company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which enhances the design option, upgrades the driveability and increases the interior space. Next generation XC90 was earlier planned to be unveiled at the upcoming Paris Motor Show but it seems like the manufacturer has other plans for this seven seater SUV.
We earlier reported that automaker has revealed the Interiors of XC90 and the features that caught our attention are the Bower & Wilkins audio system and the 9.5-inch tablet-like touch screen control console which operates almost all the interior functions of SUV. The screen is divided into the four sections- navigation, media, phone and weather with the Apple’s new CarPlay system.
Bower & Wilkins audio system on the whole comprises of a 12 channel HARMAN 1,400 Watts Class D amplifier which powers a total of 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers, 7 Nautilus tweeters (25 mm) with the latest treble technology, 7 midrange speakers (5x100 mm and 2x80 mm) with the characteristic yellow Bowers & Wilkins Kevlar cone clearly visible behind the cover, 4 cone woofers (200/165 mm) and the new, ground-breaking air-ventilated subwoofer (250 mm).
The comfort of the car is raised to a next level with the four-zone climate system which allows individual settings for the passengers in the front and second row while for the occupants of third row, a separate air-conditioning unit is provided. Another stand-out feature of the XC90 Twin Engine is the gear lever made from exclusive Orrefors crystal glass. The crystal is made in Sweden and will be available only on the Twin Engine variant. According to the Interior Design Manager Anders Bergstrom, “The crystal gearknob is a “gem” that reflects light in different colours when the sun hits it.” “It’s a beautiful thing”.
Mechanically, the new XC90 will be offered with an array of engine options. The top of the line T8-badged XC90 gets a supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged engine driving the front wheels and an electric motor powering the rear axle. It will have a combined output of 400 bhp and 640 Nm, with batteries enough to cover 40 kms alone.
Moreover under the hood, there is also an option of two more 4-cylinder Drive-E engine options including a D5 twin-turbodiesel engine which develops a power of 225 bhp and 470 Nm of peak torque. While the D4 is a conventional turbo diesel mill rated at 190 bhp and 399 Nm.
On the gasoline front, the XC90 gets two more powertrains, a T6 turbocharged and supercharged engine rated at 320 bhp and 400 Nm, while the T5 mill churns out 254bhp and 350Nm of peak torque.
