Volvo, the Swedish manufacturer has officially released its first interior images of the all-new Volvo XC 90. This seven seater SUV features a large touch screen control console along with the integration of handcrafted soft leather and wood panels.
“The most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design of Volvo Cars. The details and functionality of the touch screen control console will be released shortly, but we presume that it will control most of the functions linked with this SUV- right from controlling the cabin temperature to locking of door. The SUV will also be linked with the internet based mobile apps and Volvo's world wide web services. The interiors boast the combination of soft leather and hand-crafted wood panels. Interestingly, the gear lever is made up of crystal glass from Orrefors, a famous Swedish glass maker while the diamond-cut controls are given for the start/stop button and volume control.
On revealing interiors, Robin Page, Volvo Cars’ Interior Design Director said, “These details are designed to become the jewels of the interior. They add a bit of exclusive playfulness rather than pure functionality.” He further added, “Just like classic Scandinavian chairs, our new seats prove that seats don’t need a lot of thick padding to be comfortable. The full seat core has an ergonomic shape that resembles the human spine. A multitude of adjustment possibilities makes it possible for the individual user to create an ideal seating position.”
The XC90 is the Volvo's first vehicle to use the company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which enhances the design option, upgrades the driveability and increasesing the interior space. The seats are designed in a way to provide maximum space for both the second and third row passengers. Second row gets three individual seats with recline adjustment. Memory seats can store settings for three different passengers and they also embrace ventilation and massage as an optional feature. “Our new interior architecture is pure and uncluttered, while still radiating the sophisticated confidence and formality that luxury SUV customers expect,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Cars.
The four-zone climate system allows individual settings for the passengers in the front and second row while for the occupants of third row, a separate air-conditioning unit is provided which can be a standard or an optional choice. However, the features might differ depending upon the market it is launched in.
