Tata Motors considering two new SUVs for Indian market

In the middle of a very tough market, the utility vehicle segment, specially SUVs are doing extremely well. Car manufacturers are launching their SUVs in the market, and has been receiving a good response from the buyers. The growing SUV market has also attracted the leading carmaker, Tata Motors, which is now planning to launch two new SUVs in India. The company already has a couple of SUVs- Safari Storme and Sumo Grande, but it requires more refreshed and attractive looking SUVs to cater to buyers.

According to a Livemint report, Tata Motors and its fully owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have started working on two true-blue sports utility vehicles for the Indian market. The vehicles would be sold under Tata brand name. More interestingly, one of the SUVs will be tagged around Rs. 10-15 lakh, and is likley to hit the market by 2016.

It seems like the two products will directly bring Tata Motors back in action, and is expected to target the other leading utility vehicle maker, Mahindra & Mahindra. It was the first company in India to create some space for SUVS with the Estate and Sierra models, followed by Safari and Storme.

Jaguar Land Rover will help the company in the key areas of development like architecture, performance, technologies, better body stiffness. The platform to be used to develop these two SUVs will be developed by Tata Motors, while Land Rover will assist the company in a number of areas. The company is also upscaling the Aria's platform for the new SUVs. Tata Motors India and JLR is also aiming to launch a series of new utility vehicles in the Indian car market by 2015.
