Tata Motors to investigate Nano fire incident

In a recent incident near Pune a newly purchased Tata Nano caught fire while its owner was on his way to home after purchasing it from a near by show-room, reported a newspaper. The incident took place when Mr Satish Sawant was driving his first car home from the showroom. According to him suddenly smoke started coming out of the car and soon the car erupted into flames.

According to Tata Motors the reason behind the incident was a faulty electric switch and to avoid this kind of incidents in future the company has changed the supplier as well as done some additional tests to rule out a possibility of a recall.

The news have raised doubt about the safety of the passenger in Tata Nano model. The news came at time when company is planning to launch a latest version of Tata Nano in overseas markets including America and Europe.

The Tata Nano model was launched in India in the the month of March last year with an exciting price tag of around $2,500. The first lot of Tata Nano model was booked even before its launch in India.

According to Tata Motors' spokesman Debasis Ray, the company is investigating the incident and it believes that the incident of fire in Tata Nano is one-off problem rather then a manufacturing fault. We believe it was a one-off stray incident It did catch fire. We're trying to figure out what may have caused it.''

Tata Motors, which is India's largest car maker as far as revenue is concern, is also in the process a new version of Tata Nano named as Nano Europa by year 2011. After analyzing the response the company will launch it in US market also.
