Tata Nano BS-IV to cost higher

Tata Nano, the world's cheapest car, which was launched in India last year, is all set to be launched in a new BS-IV compatible version, by the end of this month. It is expected that the new Tata Nano will be a bit costlier as compared to the existing model, though there are no announcements from the company's side regarding this increased price.

It is expected that Nano’s price will rise in a range of Rs 1,979 to Rs 2,133 (ex-showroom) across all variants, which in turn will possibly increase the on-road price by Rs 5,000-7,000.

Now that emission norms in the country include BS-IV for 13 cities and BS-III for the rest of the country, the Tata Nano will be available in both BS-IV and BS-III, as is applicable, the company said in response to a questionnaire from a leading business newspaper in India. Company is yet to start the delivery of BS-IV compatible Nano's. Should there be a price change for BS-IV Nanos, the company will intimate respective owners. In any case, 75% of Nano’s demand is in non-Metros, company said in a statement.


The cities where the new BS-IV compatible Nano's will be dispatched include Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata. The Nano dealers in these cities are expected to receive the deliveries by the end of this month. Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car maker is planning to launch its small car Maruti Cervo in India. The model will be competing with Tata Nano, and will possibly be powered with a 660 cc engine.
