Tata Nano cars to be recalled to fix defects

Tata Motors, confirmed on Wednesday, that the Indian car company is recalling Tata Nano, the wonder car due to safety errors in the vehicle. Tata Motors most ambitious project Tata Nano, the cheapest and smallest car in India, had earlier been reported for accidents where the small car caught fire a number of times. As per Mr. P M Telang, the Managing Director (Operations in India), for Tata Motors, told that, the company is recalling the small car and the buyers have also been informed about it. Till now few cars among the 70,000 Tata Nanos sold have already been fixed.

He went on saying that, it is not confirmed that how many Tata Nano will be recalled, as it depends on the number of cars that need to be corrected. Carl-Peter Forster, the CEO and MD of Tata Motors Group yesterday stated that, the Indian auto company will add safety features in the small car, to prevent it from further accidents. He added that, the catalytic converter will be covered to protect it from catching fire. The company will also put fuse in the electric components which will greatly prevent it from short circuits.

In August this year, another incident of Tata Nano catching fire was reported in New Delhi. It was the sixth accident in Tata Nano since the time of its launch in the previous year in March. But as per the reports from Tata Motors, in May, a team of experts confirmed that there is no defect in manufacturing of the car. The car has been checked twice and verified safe and reliable for driving. Moving to the performance of the Indian auto market and Tata Motors in it. The domestic car market in October, put up great sales figure and saw a noticeable growth by 22.32 per cent in the Passenger car segment which accounted to 24,478 units sold. Tata Nano could not, however rise to the expectations of Tata Motors and did not show up quite well in the market for a long time. In October, 3,065 Tata Nano were sold in the passenger car segment showing a paltry growth of 2 per cent.
