First month, 3000 units sold, that’s what Tata Motors was suppose to be expecting from the next-gen Nano. The tiny car in the latest avatar has been quite promising so far when comparing to the previous year's performance. Tata Motors launched the latest generation model with comprehensive changes at exteriors, interiors and not to forget, the AMT addition which has given the needed boost to the said figure. With 1,000 units already delivered to the happy customers, another batch of 2,000 units will be dispatched soon.
Mayank Pareek, President of the company’s Passenger Vehicle Business Unit said “Based on our total bookings, 70 per cent of the GenX Nanos booked are the AMT version. AMT as a technology gives the convenience of clutch free driving, automated gear shifting and the freedom to choose a drive mode, hand in hand with good fuel economy at an affordable price”.
Briefing about the changes, the car now comes with a smiling front grille, smoked headlamps, revamped bumpers and front fog lamps. The most noticeable alteration at the rear is the openable boot hatch that was missing in the last version. Nano GenX is available in seven new exciting colors as well.
Interiors have been gone through drastic changes with the car incorporating features like multi-information display, Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), front power windows and Sports Mode in the AMT version for more lively driving experience. The car also include treats like Air conditioning and new music system that also supports Aux-In and USB and Bluetooth playback, powered by 4 speakers.
Power department remains untouched as it embraces the same 0.6 liter 2-cylinder MPFI engine that produces 38.19 PS and 51Nm of peak torque, mated to 4-speed manual transmission. The AMT transmission option is the same set of equipment being imported from Magentti Marelli. Nano GenX AMT claims fuel economy of 21.9kmpl.
At the starting price tag of Rs. 1.99 lacs, this vehicle from Nano has already taken a pie of share from its counterparts Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon, coming months would reveal more about its impact. For now, its the AMT variant which has been creating turmoil in the sales chart with the waiting period increasing to as much as 6 weeks. The AMT mechanism is available in XMA and XTA variants priced at Rs. 2.7 lac and Rs. 2.9 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi)
