It's definitely not the favourable time for the Indian automotive industry, so as for the home-grown automajor Tata Motors. Tata has been struggling to sell their cars in numbers for about an year. In fact, some of their key products too seem not to meet expectations. Tata Nano, the car which was called to be the 'people's car' has been constantly losing its ground. In April 2013 as well, Tata Motors managed to sell only 948 units of the Nano as compared to the 8028 units of the Nano sold in the corresponding month, last year.
Not just in April, but the entire year went unfavourable for the car, as against the 74,527 units sold in 2011-12, the total number came down to 53,848 units in the financial year 2012-14. So, to counter the situation, Tata Motors is planning to launch the facelifted Nano very soon. The facelifted Nano has been caught doing test-mules at several places in India.
Like we mentioned above, it's not just the Nano which is witnessing a low sales, the overall sales of Tata Motors too recorded 14.85 per cent decline at 51,160 units in April 2013 as against 60,086 units in the corresponding month last year. The total passenger vehicles sold in the Indian market were 11,570 units in April 2013, which means 48.94 per cent decline. However, the commercial vehicle segment did well for the company in April, sales went up by 3.97 per cent.
