While covered in camouflage, the 2020 Nexon’s front end looks sharper and boxier than the current model’s curvy styling. The front air dam and fog lamp housing seems to be redesigned too. The headlamps feature a new integrated LED DRL design and the taillamp design seems to have been updated with a clear lens casing.
The test mule spied was also wearing new alloys, although they seem to be the same size as the current model i.e. 16-inch alloys. Tata seems to have stuck with the proportions and coupe-like roofline for the facelifted Nexon. The updated SUV is expected to get some new features such as a sunroof, a semi-digital instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen infotainment display.
Tata will be offering the Nexon facelift with BS6-compliant versions of the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines that are on offer currently. Both units are available with the choice of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT options. In their current forms, the petrol engine produces 110PS/170Nm while the diesel engine puts out 110PS/260Nm.
The Tata Nexon facelift is expected to be launched soon after its public debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. It will resume its rivalry against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which is also due a facelift, the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. Tata is expected to price the Nexon facelift at a slight premium over the current model whose prices start at Rs 6.58 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
