The Punch stands out in sea of hatchbacks and SUVs thanks to its unique mix of design and compatibility at its price point
The last few years have seen car buyers in India hop onto the SUV bandwagon as prevalent globally. With a multitude of SUVs shaping up in recent years, it was about time for a change. That’s when we saw Tata Motors swing into action and introduce the Punch micro SUV, creating a completely new and entry-level SUV segment below the already popular subcompact space.
But what makes the Punch an interesting offering you ask? Well, here’s a rundown of its key highlights on the backdrop of its series production having achieved the 2-lakh unit landmark.
A New Segment-creator Altogether
When the Punch came out in 2021, we had nothing like it in the Indian market. Tata had gone ahead with the two most widely loved design formulae to create this micro SUV. At the same time, it borrowed design cues from its existing products like the Altroz, Nexon and Harrier for their doors, shape and fascia, respectively.
The Punch, in the real sense, pushed the envelope of crossover designing between hatchbacks and compact SUVs, thereby leading to a new segment and market altogether. It has managed to cater to buyers who wanted the compact footprint of a hatchback bundled with the key characteristics usually associated with SUVs.
A Score To Be Proud Of
Tata ensured that the Punch turns out to be an all-rounder of sorts by not only giving it modern looks and features but also making it the safest car in our market for a brief period. It was backed by the micro SUV’s performance in the Global NCAP’s crash-test assessments, where it got a full score (5 stars). It is the smallest and the most affordable car in India to have such a remarkable result.
Yours To Make
While the Punch is already a stunning car, if it still doesn’t fit your fancy, Tata has even provided it with a few customisation packs. There are four on offer, one for each variant. They can enrich your Punch experience by not only packing some cosmetic upgrades but also some useful equipment including a 7-inch touchscreen and a reversing camera.
More To Come…
If you thought that’s all there that the Punch can offer, hold your horses as Tata will soon be introducing the CNG option on the SUV as well as it recently did with the Altroz. Overall, the Punch is for those buyers who are willing to buy a compact hatchback with SUV-esque traits and for those wishing to stand out in the sea of the two body styles.
