With over 7,000 unit sales in August, the Mahindra Scorpio’s sales figure has nearly doubled after it took the Classic suffix. It is fair to say that the refreshed look and powertrain upgrades are favoring the SUV’s sales.
The Scorpio Classic gets a new front end, refreshed rear profile and 17-inch alloy wheels with the ‘Twin Peaks’ logo all-around. The SUV also features LED DRLs, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a black and beige interior theme.

The seven-seater SUV is powered by an all-new 2,184cc, 4-cylinder, diesel engine that debuted in the second-generation Thar and is also offered with the base-spec Scorpio N. This unit is mated to a new six-speed manual transmission and makes 132PS and 300Nm.
While two generations of the Scorpio are on sale at the same time, the clientele for each is quite different according to the carmaker. Going by Mahindra’s internal data, urban buyers have a much stronger preference for the Scorpio N, accounting for 77 per cent of the model’s registrations. Meanwhile, buyers located in tier III and IV markets have a stronger preference for the Classic, accounting for 55 per cent of the car’s total demand.
The Scorpio Classic is offered in two variants: S and S11 with prices ranging from Rs 11.99 lakh to 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
