It seems like Mahindra & Mahindra's manufacturing unit at Igatpuri in Maharashtra is soon going to start. The engine producing unit, which has been stalled for the last 13 days following the "tools down" agitation by workers, is expected to start from tomorrow with management readying to recall two suspended workers.
Shiv Sena president Uddhave Thackeray met with Pawan Goenka, President of Automotive and Farm Equipment division of Mahindra Group, which leads to the call off the 13-days tools down agitation that began from April 9. "Pawan Goenka had a meeting on the issue with our president Uddhav Thackeray yesterday, following which the management agreed to revoke suspension of two workers and also withdraw charge-sheet proceedings against them. The work will be resumed and the agitation will be called off," President of Bhartiya Kamgar Sena, affiliated to Shiv Sena, Suryakant Mahadik told PTI here tonight.
The Thackeray had an hour-long meeting with the Union Committee and advised workers to withdraw their agitation. "I am going to meet the workers at the plant tomorrow and I hope the agitation will be called off at 11 AM," Mahadik said. However, the company officials hasn't made any comment on this issue. In past 13 days, the company has suffered a production loss of around 8,000 units during the agitation. The manufacturing units has a capacity of developing 1,100 engines per day in three shifts for Mahindra's cars such as XUV 500, Bolero, Xylo, Genio and Maxximo.
