Toyota Camry Hybrid launching soon

Like we informed you earlier that Toyota Kirloskar India is planning to increase its hybrid portfolio in the Indian car market, now there are reports around confirming the same. The company aims to introduce Etios Hybrid, and is also considering Camry hybrid for the Indian buyers. Despite poor response for Toyota Prius and Honda's Civic hybrids, it is surprising that Toyota is considering Etios hybrid and Camry hybrid, and plans to locally assemble hybrid vehicles in India alongside 2.4-litre petrol engine. The company is doing feasibility study to assemble hybrid vehicles here in India.

The Japanese auto major sold over 1.2 million hybrid cars in 2012 globally, which accounts for 14 per cent of the company's overall sales, however the company has nothing to show in emerging markets like India. For instance, it imports Prius hybrid for Indian buyers, paying 100 per cent duty, which makes it price almost double at Rs. 28 lakh.
More interestingly, the Toyota Camry hybrid has been caught testing in India, indicating a near launch. The hybrid Camry will be visually slightly different from the non-hybrid one, as it comes with a distinct set of lighting, new grille and fog lamps. The car would come with larger 17-inch alloy-wheels, which further boost up the efficiency. It is also expected that the interiors of the Camry hybrid are also different from the current non-hybrid version of the car.

The Camry hybrid would come with the electric + Petrol system, and will have three driving modes - fully electric, fully petrol and petrol + electric. The 2.5-litre engine will be coupled to a hybrid motor, which further boost up the output. A 650-volt electric motor will be mated to the gasoline motor, and the duo is expected to offer 190bhp of max power. The engine will be coupled to an electronic continuously variable transmission (e-CVT).
