The compact SUV segment is trending and upcoming these days and now it appears that the rest of the world is catching this fever as well. Japanese automaker, Toyota has showcased its C-HR compact SUV at the ongoing 2016 Geneva International motor show. The car features a sharp design and it only takes a quick glance to spot similarities between it and Nissan Juke.
There is also a possibility that C-HR will forge its way to the Indian market, as it will be sold with its right-hand drive configuration in the UK. Also, a current shift in the Indian consumer trend reflects that Indian buyers are partial towards compact SUVs, which is why the segment is on a boom. Toyota is highly revered for its utility vehicles in India. These facts act as great motivational factors for Toyota to go ahead and introduce C-HR in India.
Commenting on C-HR, Toyota said, “Akio Toyoda’s determination to allow greater stylistic freedom and promote engineering creativity in order to achieve eye-catching designs and enhanced driving pleasure.”
Toyota C-HR finds its foundation in the TNGA platform and will be sold with two powertrain options in the UK, which includes a hybrid and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol powerplant. The Hybrid unit incorporates a 1.8-litre hybrid petrol powerplant and is capable of producing a combined power output of 122bhp, while the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mill belts out 115bhp of peak power output. The engines will come mated to a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an optional CVT gearbox will also be on offer as well.
Certain markets apart from the ones in the UK will also receive a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, which will be exclusively offered with CVT. There has been no word regarding the possibility of a diesel variant and which engine will it possibly incorporate.
