The SUV features sporty cosmetic updates from the brand’s racing division along with added features

  • The limited edition Fortuner TRD is only available with the diesel-AT powertrain.

  • It is offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 variants at a premium of Rs 2.45 lakh over the standard Fortuner.

  • It gets sporty cosmetic updates for the bumpers, black and maroon interior, and TRD badging.

  • A facelifted Fortuner is due to arrive early-next year.

The current Toyota Fortuner in India gets a new TRD Limited Edition variant ahead of the mild facelift expected to arrive in early-2021. It is only offered with the diesel-automatic powertrain but with both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options. Here’s how much the sportier-looking Fortuner will cost you:

Diesel-AT Fortuner

TRD Limited Edition

Standard

Difference

4x2

Rs 34.98 lakh

Rs 32.53 lakh

Rs 2.45 lakh

4X4

Rs 36.88 lakh

Rs 34.43 lakh

Rs 2.45 lakh

The TRD badging is special for any Toyota offering as it is the initials of the Toyota Racing Development team. In the case of the new limited edition Fortuner TRD, it gets sporty cosmetic updates for the front and rear bumpers, 18-inch charcoal black alloy wheels, dual-tone black roof, plenty of TRD badges, and a two-tone black and maroon theme for the interior. In terms of features, the Fortuner TRD comes with a 360-degree parking camera, auto-folding outside rearview mirrors, and an illuminated scuff plate. But you have to ask whether these changes alone are worth the Rs 2.45 lakh premium over the variant it is based on.

The Fortuner already comes equipped with seven airbags, bi-beam LED projector headlamps, powered tailgate with height-adjust memory, electrically adjustable front seats, cruise control and leather upholstery.

In case you want more technology for your highly capable and comfortable Fortuner TRD, Toyota is also offering a Special Technology package. It adds a head-up display, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear wireless phone charger, air ionizer, video recorder and puddle lamps.

Toyota is offering the TRD variant with a single powertrain: the 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It produces 177PS and 450Nm and is offered with both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. The standard Fortuner is also available with a 2.7-litre petrol engine offered with a choice of both manual and automatic transmissions. However, it doesn’t get the option of 4x4 drive.
