Exploring the details, design and features of the Raize

The Toyota Raize is a new Japan-only sub-4 metre SUV offering as of now. It is based on a platform co-developed by Daihatsu, a Toyota subsidiary. While the Raize itself is not going to arrive in India, we believe that its design can preview the upcoming 2022 Toyota sub-4m SUV for India. Being a sub-4m SUV, it appears to be a perfect recipe to take on the crowded segment. Let’s take a closer look at the Raize in the pictures below:

The front of the Raize is a straight-forward design when compared to something like the Hyundai Venue. It gets conventionally styled headlamps with LED DRLs and fog lamps positioned on the bumper. The sporty air dam styling seems Lexus-inspired.

The rear of the Raize also features a few sporty elements. It doesn’t get a light bar across the boot to connect the LED taillamps as seen in many new designs, but a black bar instead. The bumper also gets sporty cladding inserts above the reflectors.

The Raize has a boxy profile, running on 17-inch alloys and it gets a blacked-out B-pillar with the dual-tone exterior. It measures 3995mm in length while the wheelbase is 2525mm long, similar to the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue.

The Raize gets an all-black interior and red accents in the more expensive variants. The dashboard layout seems simple and upright with the infotainment system above the central air vents and the climate controls below it.

The Raize features a 9-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility and hot keys to the right side of the display, which is convenient for the driver.

It also gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display.

In terms of convenience, the Raize has a boot capacity of 369 litres, which is more than what the Brezza and Venue have to offer.

The Raize offers headrests for all three rear passengers and a proper 3-point seatbelt for the middle occupant.

Toyota is offering the Raize with only a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a CVT automatic. This unit is tuned to produce 98PS of power and 140Nm of torque. This small SUV also gets the option of a 4WD variant, which adds to its usability quotient.

If you think the Raize looks a bit too plain, Toyota has a solution. The small SUV will be offered with a host of accessories and stylised body kits, including a TRD kit, in Japan.
