Toyota suspends Fortuner bookings in India

Toyota Motors, Japan based leading car maker, has announced suspension of the bookings of its popular SUV Toyota Fortuner, on Thursday. According to company it has suspended bookings for its sports utility vehicle Fortuner till July in India in order to clear backlog of bookings.

The Fortuner model was launched in India in August 2009, and since then it is receiving an overwhelming response from Indian buyers. Toyota has managed to sell more then 6500 units of this vehicle in India so far. To catch-up with this high demand the company has increased its production to 950 units per month from initial 500 units per month.

The news came at a time when Toyota's Indian subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is in the process of changing and upgrading faulty brake kits of Fortuner after the complaints from 220 customers.According to Mr Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the average waiting period for the SUV Fortuner is around six months and Company has closed bookings as it doesn't want its customers to wait. Toyota will re-start bookings in June -July once it is able to clear the backlog.

According to company its suspension of bookings will continue until the time when the waiting period comes down to three months, as at present, the company has pending order of over 6,000 units. In order to improve customer satisfaction Toyota is only modifying or improving the brakes, therefore this is not a recall. company has received 220 customer feedback till date, said a company spokesperson.
