The Urban Cruiser is based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The automatic gearbox versions will be available with a mild-hybrid system as well. Toyota will offer the Urban Cruiser in three variants: Mid, High and Premium. All three will be available with both gearbox options.

The feature set of the Urban Cruiser will be based on the Vitara Brezza. The Mid variant will be  based on the VXI variant of the Vitara Brezza, the High variant will be based on the ZXI variant and the and the Premium variant will be based on the ZXI+ variant of the Maruti SUV. In terms of design, however, the SUV has been given a new face that is more in line with Toyota SUVs such as the Fortuner.

We expect Toyota to launch the Urban Cruiser in the coming weeks and expect it to be priced between Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 11.65 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from the Vitara Brezza, it will rival the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
