The Hyundai Venue made its global debut in 2019 as the brand’s smallest SUV offering. However, there’s an even smaller SUV-type model in the works for India and it has only just been spied for the first time ever.
Back in 2018, the Korean carmaker had alluded to a micro SUV positioned below the Venue. Unlike the Venue that was first previewed by the Carlino concept, we don’t have any idea about the design details of the new Hyundai micro SUV. It has been spied while draped in camouflage and loaded on a transporter.
Its proportions suggest a simpler design like a hatchback crossover with a tall seating position and increased ground clearance. This new model seems to be a high-spec iteration with stylised wheels. It can also be seen with rear door handles positioned on the cladding between the windows and the C-pillar, a bit like the Tata Altroz. The front end seems to continue the split headlamp design of the Venue with a mesh-style grille. It is hard to discern any particular details of the rear end due to the various bits of camouflage on the test mule.
The Hyundai micro SUV could share its powertrains with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, i.e., the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines as well as the 100PS 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. While all engines will likely be offered with a manual gearbox, only the 1.2-litre petrol could get the option of an AMT.
The smallest Hyundai SUV offering will rival the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 NXT, Maruti Ignis, and the upcoming Tata HBX as well. It would be positioned above the likes of the Maruti S-Presso and Renault Kwid which are entry-level SUV-esque offerings. This new micro SUV could be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
