The original people’s car and no we’re not talking about the Tata Nano but the Volkswagen Beetle, might be nearing its launch in India. Earlier, Volkswagen had shipped in a unit of the all new Beetle for the purpose of homologation in the country. Now, as it turns out, several units of the car have been brought to India and this might be an indication of Beetle’s fast approaching launch in the country. The car will be brought to India via CBU route.
The new Beetle keeps true to the Volkswagen’s tradition, which was also picked up by previous generations of the car and features styling that is reminiscent of the original Beetle, which was designed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Certain updates in the new car include a relative increase in length and width as compared to the previous generation of the car.
This particular revelation came as courtesy of the car’s import data, which also revealed that the new Beetle will feature a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine. The same power-plant finds its application in the Volkswagen’s Jetta sedan and the car also shares the same PQ35 platform with the Jetta.
The new Beetle will rival the recently launched Abarth 595 Competizione and the Mini Cooper and will be company’s premium veteran product and might help the brand appeal of Volkswagen’s other products. The company might keep the sales expectations of this particular model realistic.
