The Golf R 400 Concept car is one of the hottest and maddest hatchback concepts from Germany lately. Volkswagen does this every year to keep the fans happy. This Golf R 400 Concept from the closed doors at R GmbH is a 394 bhp monster which can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds.
Top speed has been unfortunately limited, to a ridiculous 280 kmph. And to keep all that power under control and lay it down on the tarmac, the Golf R 400 has 4MOTION all-wheel-drive-system.
The Golf R 400 produces a 100 bhp more than its production sibling, Golf R, from a 2.0 litre TSI engine with underpinnings from Volkswagen WRC race engine. The torque production has also gone up from the production models 380 Nm to 450 Nm in the R 400.
The 4MOTION all-wheel-drive-system features a Haldex-5 coupling that gets active even before the tyres slip. When driving normally, the rear axle is disconnected to save fuel. The specific output of 200 bhp per litre on the Golf R 400 is nearly equivalent to many super cars.
The front seats on this hot Golf are motorsport inspired bucket seats with openings for a race harness and embroided “R” badges. Bits and pieces of the seats are covered in what VW calls exclusive “carbon leather”, and the rest is draped in anthracite-coloured Alcantara.
The entire interior theme has been set based on carbon, across doors, dashboard, etc. The nicest detail is the contrasting yellow stitching throughout the entire interior on the Golf R 400.
