Volkswagen Group sells 6.52 million vehicles in first eight month of 2014

Leading automotive group Volkswagen, sold 7,40,500 vehicles worldwide in August, up against 7,20,900 units in the same month last year, registering 2.7 percent sales growth. While the cumulative sales of group in January-August tenure stood at 6.52 million vehicles, in comparison to 6.17 vehicles last year, posting a good 5.6 percent jump.
"Deliveries by the Volkswagen Group developed well in the first eight months. However, the economic environment in some world markets remains tense", Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler said. "The Volkswagen Group and its brands are in an excellent position to master these challenges." he added.
The Volkswagen brand itself, delivered 3.4 percent more, 4.03 million vehicles worldwide in January-August period, while the sales during last year stood at 3.90 million vehicles. The brand handed over 1.83 million vehicles in China, with a good 17 percent growth as compared to 1.56 million units last year. In Western Europe (excluding Germany), the brand's sales tally stood at 5,61,500, as against 5,35,400 vehicles last year, up by 4.9 percent.
Audi, retailed 1.14 million vehicles worldwide in the first eight months, posting 10.5 percent sales jump. Brand with four rings' China sales were up by 16.4 percent at 3,64,100 vehicles. The brand also grew deliveries in the United States compared with the same prior-year period, by handing over 1,16,100 units to its customers, showing 14.5 percent growth.
Porsche sold 1,19,800 units in the period to August, as compared to 1,06,800 units in the same period last year, up by 12.2 percent. In the Asia-Pacific region, Porsche's sales were up by 15.6 percent at 37,500 vehicles, whereas 35,700 units were handed over to the customers.
Skoda posted 13.4 worldwide sales growth from January to August. The brand delivered 6,78,500 vehicles in this tenure, as compared to 5,98,400 vehicles last year. The company handed over 1,80,800 units to customers in Central and Eastern Europe, up by 13.6 percent. In Western Europe (excluding Germany) the brand sold 20 percent more vehicles at 1,76,800 units.
Group's economic band, SEAT delivered 2,57,800 vehicles worldwide in the period to August. The company handed over 2,17,600 vehicles to customers on the overall European market. In Central and Eastern Europe, the brand recorded a hefty 60.5 percent increase, with 16,600 units handed over to customers there.
