Volvo already offers Apple CarPlay with its Sensus infotainment system; now it has added Google Android Auto smartphone integration.
Volvo has introduced Android Auto support in its range-topping 90 series vehicles – the S90, V90, XC90 and the India-bound V90 Cross Country – in the UK. The Android Auto will be part of Volvo’s smartphone integration package, which already includes Apple CarPlay, and is now priced at £300 (roughly Rs 26,000). Moreover, Volvo highlighted in an official release that existing owners of these models – those built after April 2016 – who already have Apple CarPlay, can benefit from a complimentary upgrade to the new smartphone integration package. Since it is now available in the UK, Volvo is expected to soon introduce this in India as well.
Android Auto is available on any Android smartphone running 5.0 Lollipop or a higher OS (operating system). Volvo has added a secondary USB port for Android Auto and its apps are displayed in the bottom section of the Sensus infotainment system’s gigantic screen. As is the case with all other cars with Android Auto support, a wide range of Android-optimised apps – including Google Maps and Google Play Music – are available directly via the car’s touchscreen or with the phone’s voice control system. Users can also make and receive calls, and send and receive text messages using Android Auto.
