Swedish luxury car maker Volvo's Indian arm has registered a record growth of 188% in January 2013, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 75 cars in January 2013 as against 26 units in January 2012. The highest ever year-on-year (YoY) growth was primarily driven by sales of Volvo S60 (luxurious sporty sedan) and Volvo XC60 (A technologically advanced compact luxury SUV).
Commenting on the performance, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “We are very happy to have a great start to the New Year. We closed 2012 with almost a 150% annual growth and now a very promising start of 2013 with another record 240% YoY growth in January. We are overwhelmed with the faith our customers and dealer partners have bestowed on us. We would continue with our strategic associations and expansions in the country as we believe that India holds tremendous potential for our brand and want to make sure that we fully capitalize on the opportunities available while providing the best possible services for our customers with the best value at the most competitive prices.”
The company currently sells four luxury models:
· Volvo XC90 - A 7-seater luxury SUV which is sturdy and apt for Indians
· Volvo XC60 – A technologically advanced compact luxury SUV
· Volvo S80 - An exquisitely elegant sedan
· Volvo S60 - A sporty sedan
