Swedish manufacturer, Volvo, will be launching the S60 Cross Country tomorrow. First showcased at the Detroit Motor Show back in 2015, the Cross Country is based on Volvo's entry-level luxury sedan, the S60. We expect it to be priced at a premium compared to the standard S60, at around Rs. 43 lakhs (ex-showroom). The car won’t have any direct competitors, simply because there isn't anything like it in the market as of now. However, the standard S60 sedan sits against the likes of the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Speaking of aesthetics of the S60 Cross Country, as suggested by the photos, it essentially carries the same design as the S60. However, there's no mistaking the Cross Country for the standard saloon. Updates include the sleek black cladding over the wheel arches and new diamond cut alloy wheels. Also, it gets an increased ground clearance, which will make it look a lot taller than the sedan and will add mild off-road capability.
Essentially an off-road version of the standard S60, the Cross Country is expected to remain mechanically unchanged. We expect the car to be powered by Volvo's 2.4-litre D4 diesel engine. Considering the ban on diesel cars with engines larger than 2000cc, the car could also be offered with the 2.0-litre diesel motor that powers the XC90. The engine will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Volvo will also be offering an All Wheel Drive (AWD) system with the Cross Country.
