Volkswagen, the German car maker launched its much awaited hatchback Volkswagen Polo on the Indian turf in the month of March'2010. The response of Indian buyers was more than overwhelming for the company as within weeks of being launched, the bookings crossed several sales milestones. The average waiting periods of Volkswagen Polo currently is more than 6 weeks, which is causing trouble to the buyer and indeed to the company.
In lieu of fierce competition by its contemporaries in the same range like Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat etc, the excited buyers are slowly drifting away from Polo and towards other easily available options. Technically, there are no issues with the car but it is the long waiting period of Polo that has started to create unrest among the Indian buyers and is indeed leading to booking cancellations.
As of now, the company has delivered 4500 Polos and the number of pending vehicles has reached to 10,000 with dealers across India. This is leading to waiting periods of 4-6 months and the company is receiving cancellations of 30 to 40 cars from time to time, said Neeraj Garg, Director, VW India. He also added that in the current situation the company is not going to adopt any short term shallow plans and would continue to stick to its commitment to quality.
