The Indian auto market is out shining as the sales showed a growth of more than 25 per cent in the year 2009 -10 and as per the assumptions the growth will accelerate to 30 per cent by 2010-11. This addresses that as many as 3 million cars have been added in these two years on the Indian shores. Even with this growth, Tata Nano, the technology mini wonder and the cheapest car from Tata Motors is still trying hard to re capture the Indian car market. India's auto sector is also growing due to the raising income source and various loan schemes available.

It is being said that the increasing number of cars on the Indian roads are the reason for the road accidents. However many believe that automobile makers can not be blamed for the increasing road traffic and the related problems. Tata Motors commented that the auto manufacturing company produces one of the safest cars by adorning the car with air bags and seat belts.

But on the contrary the growth in the sales of the automobiles is the main contributor in the road accidents in India. It was stated by the World Health Organization (WHO's) latest Global Status Report on Road Safety that increasing cars on the Indian shores are a major reason of increasing road accidents. The increasing number of cars in India indicate that the road traffic accidents are increasing against the international number. India is crossing the mark of 120,000 deaths every year. The reasons which can be counted are speeding cars against the low speed limits on highways and also in cities and the major of all of them is drunken driving.

The road accidents shows the drivers not following the road etiquettes while driving. As per the WHO report, India is known for non-fatal road related accidents which near to 500,000 in one year. Road accidents cause loss of 3 per cent in GDP wealth of the Indian Government.

The state and central government are greatly responsible along with the drivers for the traffic related accidents. In a 2006 report, the Sudaresan Committee on Road Safety and Traffic management asked for the suggestions which were later included in the National Road Safety And Traffic Management Board Bill however it is still waiting for the Cabinet consideration.
