Maruti is delighted with the success of its latest offering, the premium Baleno hatchback, but we are looking forward to its much anticipated Micro-SUV, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The segment is very hot right now, especially with the recent launch of Renault Kwid. The French automaker had to suspend the bookings of its offering to match the escalating demand, courtesy of the overwhelming consumer interest. The same interest coupled with Maruti’s brand and the trust associated with it, is bound to make Ignis India's next favorite. So let's explore the reasons supporting Ignis’s credibility.
The Design
The little car features a relatively boxy design, which capitalizes on the same rugged appeal that Kwid targeted but with its muscular styling approach. Enhancing the aesthetics, the relatively large wheels, flared wheel arches and chrome accents will make Ignis a sight to behold. The eye-candy doesn’t just stop there as the interiors are expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system and if the concept images are any indications, then a two-tone color scheme and retro switches for instrument controls might also make their way inside the cabin (fingers crossed).
The Powerplants
Ignis is is slated to be showcased at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and other than that, the company has not disclosed any details about its offering. Engine specifications are still a matter of speculation, which suggest that the car might feature a 1.0 litre turbocharged BoosterJet engine and possibility also dictates the 1.2-litre petrol unit from Swift and the 1.3-litre SHVS mild hybrid diesel from Ciaz might also make their way into the Micro-SUV.
