CrossPolo 1.2 MPI Review
Volkswagen India has always managed to stay on headlines by introducing the refreshed versions and new variants of its models. Recently, it has rolled out a brand new petrol trim in its compact crossover model series, which is christened as Volkswagen Cross Polo 1.2 MPI . This latest trim is powered by an advanced 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood that can deliver a mileage of 16.47 Kmpl. Apart from this, this new trim gets all the aspects that are already available in its existing diesel counterpart. Its exteriors are fitted with a lot of sporty cosmetics like side skirts, aluminum bumper cladding, roof rails and a rear spoiler, which gives it a breathtaking look. At the same time, this hatchback also gets an enchanting interior design featuring a lot of metallic and high gloss black accents. Its dashboard is integrated with a stylish three spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel, which is wrapped with premium leather upholstery. The seats inside are quite wide and well cushioned, which can provide better support to the body. On the other hand, there are number of features incorporated inside like Climatronic automatic AC unit, height adjustable driver's seat, electrically adjustable outside mirrors and parking sensors. At present, this vehicle is positioned against the likes of Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Ford EcoSport in the Indian automobile market.
Exteriors:
There is no doubt that this latest compact crossover looks stylish in terms of its appearance, thanks to its sporty cosmetics. It has black colored skirts and moldings all round, which emphasizes its aggressive stance. To start with the front facade, it has blackened headlight cluster, which is powered by halogen lamps. It surrounds a wide radiator grille that is skilfully fitted with a horizontally positioned slat and embedded with the company's logo. The front bumper has a dual tone design and a massive air intake section unlike any other vehicle in the Volkswagen's portfolio. Furthermore, it is also fitted with a silver garnished lower cladding along with a pair of fog lamps, which gives a dynamic look to its front facade. Coming to the side facet, its door panels are fitted with massive moldings, while the lower section has protective claddings. Interestingly, its roof rails along with ORVMs are garnished in aluminum, which gives it a distinctive look. This model series is blessed with a sturdy set of five spoke design alloy wheels, which further adds to its sporty stance. This newly launched vehicle has a total width of 1698mm along with a height of 1483mm and a decent length of 3987mm.
Interiors:
Coming to the interiors, this Volkswagen Cross Polo 1.2 MPI trim has a resplendent interior design featuring a lot of metallic and glossy black accents. It has an attractive dual tone color scheme, which is highlighted by elegant illuminated control switches. Its dashboard has a layered design featuring a large center fascia and a small instrument cluster. It is equipped with aspects like a climate control unit, music system along with a few drink holders. The most attractive aspect of the cabin is its flat-bottomed steering wheel that is skilfully decorated with chrome accents. Right behind this, there is an instrument cluster featuring a color screen and two analogue gauges, which displays all the important information related to this compact crossover. All the seats have integrated side bolsters along with adjustable head restraints and are covered with fabric upholstery. There is an ample leg space available inside the cabin, as it is built with a long wheelbase of 2469mm.
Engine and Performance:
Powering this trim is the 1.2-litre petrol engine that has a displacement capacity of 1198cc. This MPI mill comprises of 3-cylinders based on DOHC valve configuration and it is integrated with a turbocharger. This enables it to produce an immense power of 74bhp at 5400rpm that results in a pounding torque output of 110Nm at 3750rpm. The automaker has skilfully mated this motor to a five speed manual gearbox that sends out the torque output to its front wheels. At the same time, it helps the vehicle to give away a peak mileage of approximately 16.47 Kmpl, which is rather decent.
Braking and Handling:
The automaker has blessed this vehicle with a rack and pinion based electric power assisted steering system, which is further integrated with speed dependent control and supports a minimum turning radius of just 4.97meters. As far as braking is concerned, its front wheels are fitted with ventilated disc brakes and the rear ones are skilfully mated to drum brakes, which offers efficient braking performance. In addition to this, it also has anti lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution, which is helpful to provide a skid-free driving experience.

Its dashboard houses an advanced Climatronic automatic air conditioning system including dust and pollen filter, which is helpful to regulate the air temperature inside. It also has a Mono chrome multi-functional display that displays outside temperature, time, fuel levels, digital trip meter and a few other such aspects. The list of other features including height adjustable driver's seat, tilt adjustable steering wheel with multi-functional switches, remote control central locking, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, rear parking sensors and power operated outside mirrors with one touch up/down function. Furthermore, the manufacturer has also integrated with a proficient music system with CD player including radio tuner. This system also has connectivity options for AUX-In, USB, and Bluetooth devices for seamless audio streaming.
Safety Features:
This hatchback is built with a high strength lightweight aluminum material, which is fully galvanized to prevent formation of rust. It also has crumple zones and impact protection beams, which can deal with the impact that is caused in case of any collision. On the other hand, it also has features like anti lock braking system, dual front airbags, front fog lamps, electronic engine immobilizer with floating code, power windows with anti-pinch protection and powerful halogen headlamps.
Pros:
1. Sporty exterior cosmetics makes it look stunning.
2. Performance of the engine is remarkable.
Cons:

- Volkswagen Cross Polo A Mixed Bag of ExperienceCross Polo has been the part of my garage for over two years now and I would like to share my experience. The car so far has been a mixed bag of affairs for me, neither too good, neither too bad. Some aspects of the car I like the most, some other do not even fit into the minimum standards. Just after driving this car around 10 months, what started giving me trouble was the poor suspension setup. Whenever the vehicle goes through a pothole, I felt a solid thud peeping into the cabin which irritated me a lot. Though I managed to get it fix, it often becomes problematic. Contrary to this, the overall performance has been satisfactory. The 74bhp 1.2L diesel engine has been fantastic and the driving quotient seems to be top-notch to date. The well-built cabin needs special mention here with all black upholstery and leather-wrapped steering. So far the experience has been good with this car. The only close rival, in my opinion, is the Hyundai i20 Cross, which boast of excellent looks loaded with high level of tech. Rest it's all up to you, whether you like it or leave it.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo
- Overpriced Good vechicleI was planning to purchase cross and did research on i20 active and polo cross. Polo cross is highly overpriced and did not offer any differentiation to Existing polo except extra cladding. Surprised to see, However I20 Active is good cross vechicle, they have increase ground clearance to 195, it look like mini SUV.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo

- POLO : The Beast is HereI bought this car in last April but got the car delivered after few months. Now i have used it for 16 months and trust me its just amazing i love driving this car its super . Its up to class in this segment this car feels luxury from inside and outside as well. If we talk about design its just amazing it's equal to maruti swift and performance wise there are no competitors of it. If we talk about room space it's just amazing its room space is massive fronts are for 2 one for driver and other for passenger and in rear easily 5-6 normal people can hop in with a ease. Now about mileage its not up to the ARAI this car only gives a average of 16-18 km pl on highways and in city it's up to 12-14 km pl with full a/c on. this car do comes with lots of accessories like light dimming, parking sensors vanity mirror and much more. This car is best in class and have a nice and powerful engine as compared with other cars in this segment this car has a good torque and power and can reach a tops peed of 150 kmph without any problems. Pickup its unbelievable in first gear it drifts the road with a roar and attains a speed of 20+ easily its good for overtaking on highways. I love this car so much it has all those thing that a common person would require. Volkswagen launched the Polo in 2010 to compete with the Hyundai i20 in the premium hatchback segment. The German manufacturer has been tweaking the Polo regularly with cosmetic and equipment upgrades to stay abreast with the competition. Volkswagen also tinkered with idea of hot hatches with Polo GT series. The latest string of updates on the Polo has made the signature grille a tad bit wider and it gets a chrome accent on the lower slat. The rectangular front fascia continues with the same headlamps but an added chrome strip across the length of the bumper connecting the fog lamp housings gives it more character. The side profile as well as the tail gate is the same but the tail lamp has been slightly revised to make it look modern. While the interior has been the same black and beige for a long time, the Polo cabin is one of the most pleasant ones in the lot. And with the regular equipment upgrades, the Polo now gets rain-sensing wipers, push-button start and electrically folding wing mirrors for the top-spec Highline trim. The Polo still remains the only hatchback to offer auto up and down functions for all four power windows. It gets height adjustable driver seat on the mid and top variants along with adjustable steering position. On the safety front, Volkswagen offers dual front airbags and ABS as standard across all variants, being one of the first manufacturers to give preference to safety in India. The Polo GT with automatic gearbox gets ESP. The Polo is offered with three engine options and three gearbox options. The 1.2-litre three cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and develops 74bhp of power at 5400 rpm and 110Nm of torque. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol, the TSi, powers the Polo GT TSI and develops 103bhp of power at 5000rpm and 175Nm of torque from 1500rpm. The GT TSi gets a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox which drives the front wheels. The diesel engine is the 1.5-litre four cylinder turbo-diesel and is offered in two states of tune ? 89bhp for the standard Polo and 103bhp for the Polo GT. Even the torque developed in the GT is 20Nm more than the 230Nm available in the standard state of tune. The diesel is mated to five-speed manual gearbox. The Polo pitches itself in the premium hatchback segment competing with the Hyundai i20, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz. With the other three being fairly new products, the Polo?s build quality, handling and performance makes it a formidable competitor. Exterior It is a design that doesn't age, looks stunning, the only problem in a country such as India is that motorists, particularly the autorikshaw and bike riders will ruin it... Volkswagon has a good branding name in whole over the world the reason is all because of there powerful cars. And proudly polo is one of those. I love driving this car this car is really awesome . I would recommend all that they should go for this car.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo
- 1st Car. Confidence is marvelousPre purchase 2015 - I needed a car as my family was to be extended. From 2 to 3. Criteria was budget ( not more than 6.5), Safety (as I was a new driver), Space ( as long travels to my hometown needs luggage space & passenger comfort), Good Mileage ( Diesel) & Easy on pocket maintenance. After evaluating Swift, Dezire, i20, Jazz, Micra, Figo, i booked Jazz by paying amount with waiting period of 3 months.(booked in 10th Aug for Navratra delivery)Purchase - During the beginning of Dusshera I inquired about the delivery with Honda guys so as to arrange the finance , disappointingly they said it will further delayed by two months due to long list. I cancelled the booking and I decided at least to buy Alto k10 by Dusherra end. On my way to home I saw VW showroom and my wife wanted to take a look.During the discussion, we sat in polo and I thought such solid yet so sober with just perfect interiors, no flashy lights hooked our attention. Perfectly engineered machine.Next day salesman called & informed about cross polo and he said they can give festival discount. car was not in the showroom, they took me to their depo. There I saw Red cross polo and wife made a decision to buy it. So got the car on the day of Dashmi at 7.30PM.Post purchase - Being a new driver I was always more than cautious not to drive fast, overtake or such things. past one year taken two trips from Gurgaon to my native in Bihar (1300Kms) with satisfaction. Performance - It feels like you driving a sedan not a hatch back. Longest stretch at a time from Lucknow to Bareilly non stop. Cruised at 146 between Lucknow to Gorakhpur as that stretch of road is better than yamuna expsway . Feels confident at high speed. Milage all along was 19-20 with ac on. Engine seems warhorse as it keeps supporting you. Rear sear is comfortable, I was able to dream in my sleep in the back seat.(you can imagine)Aspect I liked - Solid built quality. Sober & classy looks. comfort to driver. Breaking. Rolling is less (no vomiting tendency on ghat roads), Horn sound, interiors.Did't like (could be better) - leg space (jazz has hall in the rear in-spite polo being larger in length), Ground clearance (realize when I witnessed under construction road from Gorakhpur to Siwan). Engine Cover should be part of the body.Read MoreWas this review helpful?YesNo
