The Tata Safari, now in its third generation, is a much better and modern SUV than ever before. It is based on the OMEGARC architecture derived from the legendary D8 platform of Land Rover.

Tata Safari

Back in early 2021, Tata resurrected one of its iconic nameplates, the Safari. Now, after two years of being launched, the SUV is still running strong in its segment, and was recently given an MY23 update. Here are five things that you will love about the Safari:

Designed To Turn Heads

The Safari is a handsome SUV, with loads of road presence. It’s in profile that the SUV’s real stance is more noticeable, with a sharp rising roofline and a kink in the windowline. At the back, the SUV’s main attraction points are the slim LED taillights and “Safari” badging.

Tata also offers three special editions of the Safari – Dark, Red Dark, and Adventure – all of which get cosmetic enhancements over the regular model inside and out.

Well-appointed, Comfortable And Practical Cabin

The SUV’s interiors feel warm and welcoming upon stepping inside the cabin. You immediately notice the use of good quality materials all around, lending a premium feel. The Safari gets a practical cabin as well, with useful touches including multiple charging ports, phone docking area, and large bottle holders.

It even gets 6-way electric adjustment for the driver seat with 3-step memory, paired with the tilt and telescopic adjustments for the steering wheel, offering the best seating position for all kinds of drivers. All rows get comfortable cushioning for the seats, with the second row also featuring captain seats in the 6-seater variants. Both the rows in the 6-seater variants get ventilated seats, a feature that is a segment first while the last row also comes in handy for average-sized adults when carrying a full house on board.

The Safari also has an 'Electric Boss Mode' for the occupant sat behind the co-driver, which is another segment-first feature. It lets you slide the co-driver seat all the way forward to open up more space in the second row. The co-driver also gets a 4-way electric adjustable seat for effortlessly arriving at the most comfortable seating position. With the 7-seater version, Tata has provided the Safari with bench seats in the second row, which can be tumbled down to access the last row easily.

Its boot space of 447 litres after folding down the last row comes in handy as well to carry big suitcases and a couple of duffle bags when planning weekend trips with your family.

Loaded With Features

New Tata Safari

Although the Safari was already a well-equipped offering ever since it went on sale in 2021, the 2023 update only bettered things for the SUV. It now comes with a 10.25-inch Harman touchscreen system, a digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera and ambient lighting in the door trims and the sunroof (Red for Red Dark edition, and Blue for the others). The Safari has carried on with features such as wireless phone charging, ventilated front and middle-row seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

Both the displays are crisp, with a lot to offer. The updated instrument cluster now shows details like tyre pressures, real-time power and torque, and driver assistance notifications.

The update also brought with it advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for the Safari. These consist of lane change alert, autonomous emergency braking, rear collision warning and rear cross-traffic alert. The Safari gets two radars at the rear which is unique to the segment and hence provides all the rear warnings and alerts like Rear Cross traffic alert, Door open alert, Rear Collision Warning. It already came with a reversing camera, six airbags, 17 enhanced electronic stability control (ESC) features and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

A Refined Diesel Powertrain

New Tata Safari

Tata has provided the Safari with a 2-litre diesel engine making 170PS and 350Nm, either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. With the 2023 update, the powertrain is now BS6 Phase 2 compliant.

Even though the Safari is a big car, it doesn’t feel like one while manoeuvring around city traffic. The acceleration and torque delivery is on point which aids in overtakes. Running on highways is a breeze too, as the Tata SUV can easily do 100kmph+ speeds while offering enough punch required for straight-road overtakes. This makes your long drives less tiring!

Ride And Handling

The Safari offers a quiet in-cabin experience thanks to the good traffic and engine noise insulation. When going around the city, its driving experience is comfortable and even on speed breakers, the SUV cushions the impacts well. On the highway, the Safari stays stable even at high speeds so you can sit comfortably and enjoy the drive.

So, the Safari is a well-equipped all-rounder with a charming personality. It is a comfortable model for carrying seven people on board, has a premium feeling inside the cabin and the ride quality is fantastic. And, the 2023 update has only made things sweeter by providing it with more equipment to take it to the next level.
