Audi India will launch the A3 cabriolet on 11th of December. Shown at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the cabriolet version of A3 is coming through a CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. The cabriolet shares, design, engine, transmission, features with its twin-sedan except the roof! As the vehicle is coming though a CBU route, expect a slightly higher price tag compared to the base price of A3 sedan, which is Rs. 22.95 lakh.
Speaking of it, the cabriolet version of the hot-selling A3 sedan is the drop-dead clone of it. Featuring a soft-top, Audi says it can be retracted within 18 seconds on speed up to 50 kmph. Externally, like the sedan, A3 cabriolet features Bi-xenon headlamps with daytime-running-LEDs along with LED taillamps.
Adding on the interiors, dashboard is similar to that of sedan, featuring a pop-out 7-inch display for the infotainment system (Audi MMi with touch pad), dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats, among other.
Mechanically, A3 cabriolet is globally available with 1.4 TFSI, 1.8 TFSI turbo petrol along with 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI diesel engines. Officially, there is no information yet on the powertrains but as this is a niche product and will only attract low volumes, Audi India is likely to launch the convertible with a 1.8 TFSI petrol probably with Quattro AWD (177 bhp/280 Nm). Transmission duties will be handled by a seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch automatic gearbox, similar to that of A3 sedan.
