Audi has at last pulled the cover off its upcoming compact SUV, the Q2, at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle has grabbed a position for itself below the Q3. Though, the car will only be on sale in the European countries, but will eventually make its way over to the Indian roads. The new Audi Q2 is more youthful than the sibling Q3 and is aiming at far younger demographic than the latter. Its the fourth member of the ‘Q’ family and will be pitted against Mercedes-Benz GLA Class and the upcoming BMW X2.
The vehicle has been crafted on the familiar Volkswagen MQB platform. The front profile bears a resemblance to the customary design which we have seen in the Q-Series of cars. The large single-frame grille with minor eggshell treatment makes it less traditional than its siblings. The headlight cluster which incorporates LED lamps and LED DRLs are spot on, while the taillamps at the back are relatively smaller when compared to the Q3 SUV.
The interiors are similar to the older generation and one is familiar with them. The dashboard styling and gadgetry takes inspiration from the A3 sedan and incorporates a 12.3 inch Audi Virtual Cockpit and the latest 5.8 inch MMI infotainment unit. Audi Q2 houses in technologies like self-parking, radar-based automatic braking and adaptive cruise control.
Though, things are a bit diluted under the hood, the car packs a range of TFSI powertrains. There will be 1.0 litre, 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre TFSI mills which are capable of generating power outputs of 114HP, 148HP and 190HP. On the other hand, the diesel powerplants will be the 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre TDI mills, where the former produces only 114HP and the latter will come with two tunes viz. 148HP and 190HP. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Launch details are still under wraps, but we can still browse through this stunning image gallery.
