Controversial German behemoth - the Volkswagen Group will soon voluntarily recall nearly 36,500 'Diesel Gate' affected Audi cars in India. Audi will fix the plagued (courtesy, the emission issue) EA 189 clan of diesel engines through a software update -- as stated in an year old Volkswagen press release. However, when contacted, Audi India did not give any confirmation regarding the same. Irrespective of the lack of confirmation, expect a service camp to start soon. The emission scandal by the Volkswagen Group broke last year and the conglomerate had started recalling cars globally from this year.
Last year in December Volkswagen Group India had announced that it will recall nearly 3.24 lakh vehicles in the country, manufactured between 2008 to 2015 (till end of November) . Approximately 198,500 cars from Volkswagen, 88,700 cars from Skoda and 36,500 cars from Audi are equipped with the EA 189 engines which include a 1.2-litre, a 1.5-litre, a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre diesel. Moreover, the 2.0-litre engines will get a software update. In the 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre engines, a ‘flow transformer’ will be fitted in front of the air mass sensor.
