BMW i8 Hybrid Sportscar Spied in Munich

A highly camouflaged BMW i8 hybrid sports-car has been caught testing in Munich. It is the BMW’s first hybrid sports car and will be launched by 2014 in the market. It will emerge as the second vehicle from the German’s I sub-brand. The car was first unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show along with the i3 electric city car, and grabbed huge attention and appreciation of visitors and critics.

The mean-machine sports two different drive systems - an electric motor and an internal combustion engine. The electric motor works along with an internal 1.5 litre three cylinder petrol engine. The engine is positioned at the rear and mated to a dual clutch gearbox.

The company used different measures to minimize the overall weight, lowering the centre of gravity and well balanced sports-car to coupled with a combined drive systems produces massive 354hp. This accelerates the car from 0-100 km/h in just five seconds. The car remains stable at a top speed of 250kmph.  The company claims a total fuel economy under the European test cycle of less than 3.9 litre/100 km. The new i8 hybrid sports car is truly a future vehicle. The 2+2 seat sports car has a low slung and aerodynamic looks, including the futuristic doors.
