The launch of an all new BMW X1 is all set to take place on 23rd December, 2010 in New Delhi. The model from BMW is expected to come in a price range of Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh. The groovy and competitively priced compact SUV BMW X1, is entering the Indian auto market by the end of this year. As expected, the compact SUV, BMW X1 will be launched in 1.8 petrol and 2.0 diesel powertrian in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit which will be assembled in the company's Chennai production facility. The all new SUV is based on the platform of BMW 3 Series saloon which is manufactured at the company's plant in Chennai. It is not official though, but as per the industry sources, the SUV is likely to be manufactured in the India, though not in the near future.

The SUV in the Indian auto market will be coming in rear-wheel drive which has greatly helped the German auto mobile manufacturer to price its SUV against its competitors. The BMW X1 will be coming in two variants BMW X1 Highline and BMW X1 Corporate Edition.

The features missing in CE version of BMW X1 are CD changer- single CD drive, sunroof. The BMW X1 CE interiors be affixed with black trim and fabricated seats other than wooden interiors unlike the fully loaded Highline BMW X1 version which will be affixed with the above mentioned features and more. The BMW X1 is likely to start a new segment of compact SUVs. The new compact SUV is a stylish and stout car with a stronger wheel base of 2760 mm and a length of 4454 mm.

The BMW X1 has already gained popularity in the global auto market and by introducing it in the Indian auto sector with this price range, it has already created ripple among its competitors such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and more. BMW has again grabbed its numero uno position in the luxury car segment by registering a growth of 60.71 per cent by selling 5,345 cars from January to November 2010 compared with sales of 3,337 cars last year same time. Recently, the German car maker has increased the production capacity from 3,000 cars to 5,400 cars yearly in single shift and also plans to invest Rs 70 crore by 2012 in its facility to expand the manufacturing plant.

The new SUV model BMW X1 will increase the existing portfolio of the German luxury car brand that currently includes BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series, BMW 7 Series, BMW Gran Turismo, BMW M Series, BMW X3, BMW X6, BMW Z4 and BMW X5.
