General Motors line-up at this edition of Auto Expo has many interesting models on display including Chevrolet Corvette which is their iconic American flagship performance car. We must say that it is quite a show stopper as it is an amazing combination of race-proven technology and tantalizing, purposeful design. However, it is quite unlikely that GM will offer this model for the Indian audiences as the maker has no plans to introduce a right-hand-drive version of the Corvette, at least not in the current generation.
The car is powered by 6.2-liter LT1 naturally aspirated V8 engine of General Motors that offers SAE International-certified power of 455 hp (339 kW) and torque of 624 Nm. The power mill is a fifth generation Small Block engine which is either available with a 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match or with a paddle-shift 8-speed automatic transmission. It is quite interesting to note that the Corvette Stingray C7 can hit 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in four seconds without any need for an additional performance package. One can select from a range of driving modes including Eco, Weather, Sport, track and Tour.
In its latest generation, this rear-wheel drive supercar is quite light, thanks to many weight-saving elements like composite fenders, carbon fibre hood along with carbon-nano composite underbody panels with doors and rear quarter panels. If the looks are amazing so are the interiors, which give the occupant a sporty and premium feel. The use of aluminum, carbon fibre and leather materials in addition to seats incorporating lightweight magnesium frame provides a classy feel to the occupant. While equipment like 8-inch digital instrument cluster and MyLink infotainment system with 8-inch colour display along with Performance Data Recorder, keeps you informed and entertained during the ride.
This car enjoys a huge fan following in the US as the Corvette Racing team stood atop the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the eighth time in 2015. We just hope that GM plans to bring this car to India soon, stay tuned with CarDekho for instant and exclusive updates of ongoing AutoExpo 2016.
