Chevrolet is all set to cash in from the revised bilateral free trade agreement between Korea and US as the company is planning to import Chevrolet Corvette Coupe into Korea. The agreement was signed in March 2012, according to which the import tax was decreased by 50% making the imports more viable and easy on the pockets. This export will be initiated by the South Korean unit of General Motors from Friday, 4th May 2012. Chevrolet Corvette Coupe will be the first car to be imported under this pact and sales will begin in early May.
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe will turn the heat against Porsche 911 Carrera and BMW Z4. Though the American brand is not expecting the Coupe to be a instant hit at the start but they do hope the luxury sports car will become the apple of the eye among Koreans in due course of time. Corvette comes will a six-speed automatic transmission engine and a sprint speed of 0-100 kmph in 4.3 speed. The car will come with a price tag of $76,300.
Chevrolet will also start exporting South Korean assembled vehicles to the US under this free trade agreement. Apart from that, Chevrolet has also assembled one liter Spark which is being churned out at the Changwon Plant. The American car market has seen a surge in the demand of the small cars because of their high fuel efficiency.
