General Motors India that launched the Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback in November 2012, has today rolled out the much awaited Sail Sedan in India at a starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakh (ex-Showroom Delhi). Launched both in the petrol and diesel versions, the Sail Sedan has come out in a total 8 variants, out of which four are petrol and four are diesel trims priced at Rs. 4.99 lakh- 6.42 and Rs 6.29 lakh- Rs 7.52 lakh respectively (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
Chevrolet India that already has the Swift rival in the form Sail U-VA hatchback , now with the Sail sedan, it will now compete against the likes of Swift Dzire, Toyota Etios and others. While the petrol version of the car is powered by the 1.2-litre Smartech, 4-cylinder mill, it's the proven and potent fiat sourced 1.3-litre multijet engine that does its duty to the diesel version of the car.
The 1.2-litre Smartech petrol engine is the similar motor that also powers Chevrolet Beat and Sail U-VA hatchback, and produces the maximum power output of 84bhp and 116Nm of torque, returning an impressive mileage of 18.2kmpl . On the other hand, the 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine fitted in the sail sedan, also powers the segment topper, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
The diesel variant too returns an outstanding mileage of 22.1kmpl, so now we can expect to see a healthy battle taking place between the Dzire and Sail Sedan. Both the petrol and diesel engine options will have the five-speed manual gearbox as standard.
As far as the features are concerned, Chevrolet has offered a bunch of advanced features with the Sail, making it a feature rich and safe vehicle, however most of the advanced features are offered with the high-end trims only.
While the Active Safety features include Speed sensitive Auto Door Locks, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), passive safety features are Airbags, Seat Belts with Pre-tensioner, Crumple Zones, Collapsible Steering System & Side Impact Beams in the doors make it one of the safest cars in the class.
