Customers cancel Swift orders owing to long waiting periods

The labour strike at the Manesar Maruti Suzuki India manufacturing plant which ended recently, is surely affecting the company in a bad way. Reports suggest that the firm faced around 2 to 4% cancellation of Maruti Swift orders. Maruti Swift is one of the most selling hatchbacks in the country. The orders are being cancelled because of long and tiring waiting period. The cancellations of the new Swift is certainly alarming for Maruti Suzuki India and if reports are to be believed, the people who cancelled their orders for Maruti Swift have opted for Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Liva.

In August, Maruti India launched the new facelifted Maruti Swift and since then the company received over 1 lakh bookings for the new Swift. The waiting period for the new Swift ranges between two to seven months, depending on the variant, petrol or diesel and also on the geographical locations. Apparently, the petrol variant of Maruti Swift has a waiting period of 22 to 24 weeks, whereas the diesel version of the hatchback has a waiting period of 24 to 26 weeks, which is surely a lot of time. Reportedly, in the last two months, no Maruti Swift has been delivered to the showroom.

Consumers are switching from Maruti Swift to other models such as Maruti Ritz and many of the consumers have shifted to other prominent car makers. According to a dealer, about 1 to 2 percent switched to Maruti Ritz from Maruti Swift. Mr. Mayank Pareek confirmed that about one lakh of Maruti Swift orders are still on the pending list and there is about two months of waiting period for the petrol version and about a massive four to five months of waiting period for the diesel version of Maruti Swift. Maruti Suzuki India witnessed the labour unrest for three times in the present fiscal which affected the manufacturing of its flagship Maruti swift. In the month of June, there was a 13 day long strike that made the production standstill. Another labour unrest was seen on 29th August between the workers and the management that lasted for about 33 days. In October, Maruti Suzuki India saw another instance of labour unrest that went on for 14 days.
