The nutty little Cinquecento will officially launch the Abarth brand in India, rivalling straight with Mini Cooper S!
Fiat India is all set to start the next phase of operations in the country. The Italian manufacturer will launch its famed performance brand - Abarth in India on August 4, 2015. The very first model will be Fiat 500 Abarth 595 Competizione. Adding on the next phase of operations, FCA (Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles) has also announced last week investment of $ 280 million for extension of Fiat’s Ranjangaon manufacturing facility to locally manufacture Jeep’s new SUVs from 2017!
The 595 Competizione is based on the stock Fiat 500 but rides low and looks apart with sporty add-ons. Plus there’s no Fiat logo anywhere on the car, it features Abarth’s scorpion insignia. Moreover, compared to the stock 500, the 595 Competizione rides on fatter 205/40 cross-section 17-inch Pirelli Zero rubber!
The power is coming from the 1.4-liter T-JET motor that’s also under the Linea, but the Abarth tuned 1.4L T-JET in 595 gets a larger turbo, intercooler and tuning. The engine musters 160 PS @ 5,500 rpm and a max twist of 230 Nm @ 3,000 rpm. The engine will feed power to a 5-speed automated manual transmission with paddle shifters while a 5-speed manual is also expected to be offered with it in the country.
