General Motors is one of the most appreciated and prominent car maker across the globe and recently it bagged the honor of becoming the world’s largest car maker. As per the statistics, GM managed to make 9 million units sales in 2011 and that too just after 2 years of coming out from bankruptcy. In the competition, General Motors left behind companies like Toyota and Volkswagen. GM had the top spot in 2007 just before it tripped down in debt and the sales sank with the US recession. At present, General Motors global sales amplified by 7.6% to 9 million vehicles with 4.4% hike in the sales in European market and about 3.9% rise in sales in the North American market.
Nonetheless, GM came back with a bang and proved to be the best with its Chevrolet brand that recorded massive sales of 4.75 million units, which comprise of almost half of the worldwide total sales. This spectacular improvement in the sales of General Motors has pulled back the company from the liquidation that happend in 2008, when the massive worldwide recession had compelled the firm to turn to US government for a bailout. In the month of June 2009, General Motors had filled for insolvency that facilitated to change the labor agreements and dump brands, workers, plants and dealers. On the road to recovery, General Motors came back as much focused and repaid about a whopping $24.1 billion of the $49.5 billion in central government assistance that it received.
