General Motors to bring six new cars in India

The famous car manufacturer General Motors left the Indian car enthusiast astounded by declaring six exclusive launches for world's second largest growing auto market in a span of two years. The sensational news sent a vibe of excitement among the car lovers in the country.

The year 2010 left some best memories in Indian auto world when it faced its highest swing and attracted car manufacturers from all round the globe to invest in this exponentially increasing market. The good news is following in the new year as well with General Motors announcing launch of no less than 6 new models for Indian Auto market. At present the company is doing pretty good in the domestic market with its cars like Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Spark. Adding six new variants to the company's Indian portfolio will make it a major player in market.

Continuing the good news, company also intends to make an investment of $100 million to increase the production capacity of its Halol plant in Gujarat. The company's operation in India includes a 50-50 partnership with SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). The venture makes all major decision related to production, selling and marketing of company's cars.

As per the statement made by Karl Slym, President and Managing Director, six exclusive passenger car models from General Motors India will enter the Indian markets along with 14 exciting variants of its existing models.

The Gujarat based manufacturing unit of the company bears an annual capacity of 85,000 units and if the investment of $100 million is made, the capacity will be enhanced to 1,05,000 unit on annual basis. The production of Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Optra and Chevrolet Aveo is carried in the Gujarat facility. The upcoming cars from company's stable will bear a total of 90% localized content and the engine will be built at General Motor's Talegaon plant.
