Hennessey Venom GT’s Production Comes To An End

The production of one of the fastest cars in the world, the Hennessey Venom GT will soon be halted. The American company, Hennessey Performance Engineering, has been popular since long for its car modifications. In 2010, it introduced the Hennessey Venom GT, based on the Lotus Exige. However, after only six years, the plug has been pulled on its production. It has a top speed of 270Mph (435kmph) and even registered itself in the Guinness World Record in 2013 for being the fastest two-seat car to go from 0-300 kmph; clocking in a time of 13.61 seconds.

The car is extremely rare as only 12 units of the Venom GT were produced along with one prototype in six years of its life span. While the first six Venoms were all hardtops, the last six were roadsters. To celebrate the end of production, Hennessey is making one last unit of the Venom GT known as the ''Final Edition''. The Venom GT Final Edition will wear a hue of blue with white stripes and will have the same, standard twin-turbo, 7.0-litre, V8 engine which churns out 1,451 bhp (1471PS) of power. If you were thinking of buying one, alas! It has already been sold for a price of $1.2 million (Rs 8.17 crore). Also, the very first Venom GT Spyder made for Aerosmith’s lead singer, Steven Tyler, is being auctioned. All the funds collected from the sale will be donated to a charity.

During its six years of production, the power figures of the Venom GT grew from 1,000bhp (1014PS) to 1,451bhp (1471PS). The car only weighs 1,245kg and claims to be the first car to achieve and exceed the power to weight ratio of one to one. John Hennessey, founder and CEO of Hennessey Performance Engineering, said that the successor to the Venom GT, the Venom F5 will be introduced sometime later this year.
