Honda CR-V SUV, which is facing a big low down in its sales in the Indian auto industry is doing tremendous business for Japanese auto manufacturer globally. Despite the market slowdown and financial crisis, which has affected the majority of markets, the SUV segment is growing at a very good pace.
The segment leader last year was Honda CR-V at 635,256 units, followed by Hyundai ix35 and VW Tiguan with 494,453 and 429,013 units sold respectively. Toyota RAV4 SUV stood at number 4, and the difference with its closest rival VW Tiguan was less than 1,000 units. Ford Kuga also defeated its rivals the Kia Sportage, and Nissan Qashqai, positioned itself among the top 10 with 298,066 units sold in 2012.
Honda CR-V which is facing trouble in India due to lack of diesel engine and high price managed to outpace most of its competitors globally. The good news is that Honda has started its diesel proceedings in India, and we would soon going to see a diesel powered CR-V. The local assembly of CR-V is also a possibility, which allows the Japanese auto giant to price it competitively.
While talking about the top ten, Dacia Duster named as Renault Duster in India, ranked 8th, with 295,069 units sold (Including Vehicles Sold Under Renault badge in South America and India). The 11th position was grabbed by Nissan Juke at 232,128 units sold. Audi Q5 is the only premium SUV at 200,474 units sold positioned in top 20, taking the 14th place, leaving behind its arch rival BMW X3.
