Honda Cars India is aiming to increase the production of the country's most fuel efficient car, Amaze sedan in order to reduce the waiting period. The company will start a third shift at its Greater Noida production unit from November this year. Currently, the waiting period of the newly-launched Amaze is 4-5 months, and the company hopes to reduce the waiting period to 2-3 months.
"The demand for Amaze has been so strong, and we still continue to have more bookings. In order to reduce the waiting period, we have decided to start a third shift at the Greater Noida plant by November," HCIL Senior Vice-President Jnaneshwar Sen told PTI. "We have not yet arrived at a number as the third shift will be shorter. At present, we are producing a total of 440 cars per day, including the Amaze, at the plant in two shifts," he further added.
According to Jnaneshwar Sen, the waiting period for the booked Amaze would come down by two months after the start of the third shift. For instance, the order backlog of Amaze is over 20,000 units and the company has been selling over 5,500 units of the vehicle per month since it was launched in April this year. When asked about whether the company is adjusting production of other Honda cars to increase Amaze production, Sen said: "No. Other models are being produced as per our original plans."
Honda Amaze has helped the Japanese auto maker to increase its market share, the company has registered a three-fold jump in domestic sales in June at 9,297 units as against 2,667 units in the same month last year.
