Hyundai, VW cars awarded as safest by Insurance Industry

Hyundai, the South Korean Automobile manufacturer and Volkswagen, the German car maker, along with Kia tops the list by insurance industry for safest new cars. The award is an initiative for those buyers who are looking forward to buy a safe car for themselves. 66 cars were recognized by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety group on Wednesday to give away the ' top safety pick award' 2011. Last year the organisation recognised 27 cars and this year the figures have been more than double. Hyundai and Kia Motors, the affiliated company along with the German manufacturer Volkswagen with its brand Audi bagged 9 awards. 8 awards were grabbed by Toyota Motor Corp, Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co.

Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Santa Fe along with the Tuscon SUV were in line to grab the prestigious award whereas Kia was awarded for its midsized car Kia Optima, small cars Kia Soul and Kia Forte, SUVs Kia Sorento and Kia Sportage. Volkswagen was honoured for Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen GTI, Volkswagen Touareg and Volkswagen Tiguan. The list also included A3 and A4 saloons of Audi.

Mercedes and Volvo grabbed 4 awards while Subaru and Chrysler received 5. The company which grabbed an award for every category was Subaru.

Mitsubishi and BMW had one award whereas the all favourite Nissan and Honda grabbed 2 of them. John Krafcik who is the president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America said that Hyundai Sonata is the safest car and no other car in industry has overpowered its standards.
