Jeep’s upcoming project is very compelling because it would be making to India. The C-SUV or Codename Jeep 551 has been snapped being loaded onto an aircraft. The airport is supposedly somewhere in South America and it's reported that this prototype is being shipped overseas for testing purpose. And who knows! the destination could be India, our home.
Looking at the spy shots, the silhouettes suggest that this SUV looks the part and would be quite sporty also. Classic, chunky SUV cues could be seen with a dropping roofline, something like Evoque (Just to give an idea).
The C-Suv is rumored to be based on the retro Renegade, currently offered in many countries like America. It is expected to replace the Jeep Patriot and Compass models across major markets. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India (FCA India) plans to manufacture and export this very car from the Ranjangaon Plant. And if reports are to be believed, the company will be exporting it to right-hand drive vehicle markets like South Africa, Australia and some Asian markets.
Centre of attraction will be the motor and the gearbox as the Jeep 551 is expected to get an inline four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol unit is said to have evolved from the Tigershark (cool engine name!) range that will probably produce around 164 bhp. While a 2.0 multijet will cater to the diesel wishers and is expected to generate near or about 170 bhp. Both the engines will get an advanced 9-speed automatic transmission mated to a standard 4WD system throughout the lineup.
It is expected to make it to production only till early 2016 in the country. However, the concept of the same car might be unveiled by the manufacturer at any of the major American motor shows in 2016.
